I recently held a small music quiz at my house which went really well so I thought I would share a few of the questions with you, no cheating by using google or anything but have a go. I must add that is was not supposed to be a difficult quiz just a bit of fun

Name the song the following lyrics are from, an extra point will be given if you can name the artists!

1. The sirens are screaming and the fires are howling, way down in the valley tonight.

2. I work all night I work all day, to pay the bills I have to pay. Aint it sad

3. Johns got brewers droop he get intimidated by the dirty pigeons, they love a bit of him

4. Well I’ve seen your face before my friend I dont know if you know who I am. I was there I saw what you did I saw it with my own two eyes.

5. Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see. I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy.

6. We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files. We'd like to help you learn to help yourself. Look around you all you see are sympathetic eyes.

7. And now my life has changed in oh so many ways, my independence seems to vanish in the haze

8. Instead of breaking up, lets do some kissing and making up, don’t throw our love away, in my arms why don’t you stay

9. And all the roads we have to walk are winding and all the lights that lead us there are blinding. There are many things that I would like to say to you but I don't know how.

10. A long long time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile, and I knew if I had my chance I could make those people dance, and maybe they’d be happy for a while.

For me, five were easy (I think, not having checked the answers) including the artists.

The other five were 'you what?' Having googled them I was surprised not to have got two but the others were not my style.

I only got 4 6 7 and 10
Strange how even familiar lyrics are sometimes hard to place when out of context

No. do I? :))

But you'd have been hard pressed to avoid hearing it a thousand times over the last 30 odd years. %-(

I didn't get ANY of them.

I'm now going to spend the evening Googling them when I shall probably kick myself once - or maybe twice. You see, if they're not by Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra or Al Jolson, I've probably never heard them.

Without wishing to pinch your thread, has anyone heard the St Ives fishermen "Fishermans' Friends" Brilliant. There's a couple of their songs on YouTube - and see also http://www.fishermansfriendsportisaac.co.uk/.

I didn't know the Phil Collins - obviously proud of that, or the Diana Ross (googled them). I had to think really hard about the Beatles. The rest were familiar.

LOL - I know what you mean, I didn't like to admit to it, but then in my case it would've meant only knowing three.....

Glad you enjoyed them, I could post some more if you want, there was a good round called 'name the band' but again they are mostly 70/80/90 bands.

Before I Googled, I had another look at the list and actually recognised the Beatles one. But as for the other nine, I hadn't heard of any of them, my exposure to pop ending in the late sixties. :(
