I've been trying to find the name of a piece of music in the Woody Allen film Crimes and Misdemeanors.
It's a string quartet, could be Beethoven or Schubert. Very dramatic - played when the main character is going to the flat of the woman he'd had murdered.
Ring any bells with anyone?

Perhaps it is Franz Schubert's String Quartet No. 15 in G ?

You can listen to the 1st movement of the 15th Schubert quartet in its entirety from my company website here:

http://www.pristineclassical.com/LargeWorks/Chamber/PACM066.php

It's admittedly a vintage recording - The Busch Quartet, recorded in 1938 - but they were just about the best quartet of the middle of the 20th century and are well worth hearing if you like the music. In my very biased opinion it sounds pretty incredible for a recording of this age - there's a bit which starts at two minutes in which sounds like they could have been playing right next to you, it's so intimate. Lovely!

Opps, sorry about that. I must have spent so long looking it up that Piperade beat me to it!

Yes that's it! Thanks a lot to all.
I remembered the tune when I heard it on the film and it reminded me of a time in my life when I used to listen to lots of this kind of music. Concerts at Red Lion Square in London.
Maybe try to get it on CD when next in the UK.
I have got 2 other Schubert pieces on old fashioned tape - The Trout quintet, and Death and the Maiden quartet which is similar in mood to this one. Amadeus quartet. Just listening to it now - lovely :)
