I have to collect a dog from Digne les Bains, to the north of Nice, on Tuesday next, the 29th of January. (date edited)

In keeping with my cost reducing policy of using the most direct routes and avoiding where possible péages I will be travelling across to Millau, then south to Junction 48 of the A 75 before heading east on the D7/D999 through Le Vigan and Ganges to Nimes.

My first time over that particular road and, in view of the season and recent snowy weather, I wondered if anyone had any current info regarding that route.

I will, for the first time in my life, be buying some snow chains as I think they are probably obligatory to carry anyway and am prepared to use them. I have said elsewhere that, in over 50 years of driving, including numerous winter trips over the Blanc in an artic, I have never fitted, or indeed carried, chains. If it becomes necessary I'm glad that my duck will be broken with a small wheeler rather than a big wheeler. :|

Well, this particular jaunt was cancelled yesterday. Would you believe that the poor dog, who had been in the refuge for 12 years(!!) was re-homed to someone else over the weekend and they weren't even going to tell us. :-o

If I hadn't asked the adopters to ring and make sure that I could collect at 8 in the morning I would have gone all that way for nothing. X(

Best of it was the directrice was angry with my 'client' on the phone, saying that 'she shouldn't have dealt with an 'unauthorised employee''. :-o

How on earth was she supposed to know who was authorised and who wasn't?

But as one door closes another opens. It is now suggested by a different organisation that I take 2 Griffons from the Gers to Soissons and Seine-Maritime. No advice needed, I know those routes by heart. ;) :)

8-| Some people eh? Wouldn't clear communication be a wonderful thing! :-j I heard a similar story from a lady who was staying nearby here. She had to drive her old horse lorry back to Portugal to retrieve her last horse, and when she finally got there, someone said they'd decided to buy it after all, but hadn't thought to ring her to save her the journey! ~x( Then her lorry conked out, and she had to stay another week or so waiting for parts! Talk about frustrating!

Bon courage for your revised trip Spardo!

Thank you Bayleaf - and some kittens to drop off on the way down by the way. :))
