Hi, I'm Dee
new here, but probably met some of you on other forums.
Currently resident in the UK, but very drawn to France and the French. Nearly bought a house there once ( Le Bugue) and looked at many more. Slowly improving my school French with the help of classes when available, but mostly with DuoLingo.
Typical time in France is touring with our vintage Eriba Puck caravan, mostly Brittany and New Aquitaine.
Interested in all kinds of practical stuff... including electrics ( day job - electrician) and have some knowledge of the French Regs. But also building stuff... our UK house has soldered zinc French gutters and Aluminium windows from France. When not doing craft related stuff I skate Roller Derby and work in the arts too.
Partner Anita is smallholder/cheesemaker and self employed podiatrist.

Look forward meeting you all online.
Dee

Hi Dee and a warm welcome to the forum !
I like the way you have taken French stuff to the UK - most people seem to bring things over from there to France !
The zinc gutters are interesting - they vary according to the region but once in place seem to last very well.

I hope you will post here - it's always nice to have different view points !

Welcome to the forum.

Our Puck is a 1980 model.... Bought from the Netherlands a few years ago. Behind our old Xsara Picasso it makes a great touring setup. Though ferry bookings cause some mirth: "is there a mistake, your caravan appears to be smaller than your car?" it sure is!

The gutters were a particular bargain. Never liked the upvc stuff. But in the UK metal guttering is a premium product at a premium price, but at a french brico it's just ordinary, and the craft installation methods appealed too: soldering is fun!

I tow with a Peugeot Partner and the 2 are aproximately the same length. On the Dieppe-Newhaven ferry it is classed as a luggage trailer.

This is a slightly surreal experience, making my first post on a 'new' forum. Having been a fairly active member of another francophile forum for more than ten years, it will be an odd experience to see "Posts: 1" beside my profile. Over there, in that "other place", we often wondered why new members often failed to make even their first post ... and now I understand their trepidation a little better. Briefly, then, an introduction ....

My wife and I have a house in the northern Vienne, somewhere between Loudun, Saumur and Chinon. After a decade borrowing other people's houses (mainly in the south), we embarked on a journey of renovation and restoration in 2005, and we're still travelling. So much still to do, and even less time to do it. We like all the usual aspects of French life - the culture, the food, the wine, the weather (even when it's freeezing in winter) and the community where we have been welcomed so generously.

I'm a graphic designer, photographer and writer by trade, and have worked in motorsport for the past 25 years or so. That includes over 20 trips to Le Mans for the 24 Hours, so I hope I'll be forgiven if I eventually start a thread about the race on the Sports board here.

About five years ago I decided a slower pace of life was in order, and we branched out into antiques. We now stand at most of the major fairs in the UK, and make regular trips back and forth between France and the UK in search of fresh stock. My wife and I share a passion for Art Deco, so that's the focus of what we sell.

I look forward to exploring here, and hope to fit in as best I can.

Hi, don't know if I've posted this on the right page but if not hopefully someone will point me in the right direction. Just want to introduce myself and thank you for letting me join this forum. I live in the Dordogne and have been here for 7 years now, and love everything about it. I run a cattery which is the best thing I've ever done and the OH is a mechanic so we're kept busy between us. I have 4 cats of my own, 2 'normal' and 2 handicapped - they have what is known as Wobbly Cat Syndrome, very similar to cerebral palsy in humans - but are adorable. I do a lot of fundraising for small animal rescue associations based in South West France which keeps me busy, love to read and do crossword puzzles. As I write this I have family over from the UK for a few days which is great as it gives us all a chance to spend some quality time together. Just not looking forward to them going home in a few days time.
Looking forward to reading all the posts and hopefully making my own comments.

I made my first post here a few days ago - my attempt at introducing myself to the forum - and was told that it required approval from the admin team before it would appear. Still no sign ... so did I say something I shouldn't?

Thanks for the welcome, and yes, you may have seen the username around, not only on other French forums, but also motorsport-related ones - sometimes as ThumperGT. Hope to be posting here regularly, and nice to be among familiar 'faces' ...

Spardo sorry but I am not association with Association Phoenix any more. I will not go into the reasons on here but there was a massive falling out about 3 years ago between their conseil and members resulting in a lot of people walking away from supporting them.

I am now involved with a group called SWAT - South West Animal Team - and our sole ambition is to raise funds for small associations who have very little funding and struggle to keep going. Since we started in October 2015 we have raised over 25000€ to help them. If anyone wants any further information please pm me or visit our facebook page

I know something of the reasons Sue, having been, and still am, very good friends with the the couple who ran the cat section at Phoenix. In fact this morning I am starting a long week on the road by moving 2 kittens for their association from near here down to the Ariege. Then following up with a puppy to England for Phoenix.

I didn't agree with them and voted otherwise but my only real interest is the animals. :)

No problem Sueindoors. I suggest you copy the info and link into the Pets section, and put the FB link in your signature ... for maximum publicity :)
It sounds as if you do pretty well with your fundraising :ymapplause:

Hello and thank you for accepting me to this forum. I have lived in France for eleven years and love it although I miss family a lot. I have recently left a brilliant forum as it is closing down and a few of us have come to you as it was recommended as a very friendly place to be. I live in the Deux Sevres which is dept 79 and I live quite rural and the French folk in my hamlet are wonderful and so very friendly. I hope to join in with various discussions here and look forward to getting to know you all in time....Regards Bella....

I'm confused! Is this the same "other forum" that lead to the creation of this site or another "other forum"?

This one's TFF the another other is TAFF, soon the be was TAFF unfortunately. There is A difference between the two.
