Having had no rain since the end of March, our garden is suffering. The worst of it is that by the time I realised that the lavender was parched, it looks as if it's too late to recover them.
If I cut back all the dead bits, but leave anything that is still alive, will the plants survive ?

Another question : There are so many varieties of lavender, what is the type that has the lovely dark mauve colour that you see in Provence ? Like this ....

I think I answered this in my other post. It's lavandin - but it doesn't smell as good as real lavender.

If you cut off all the dead bits and water it a bit (not too much) the rest should be OK.

Thanks, Opalette. Yet it's what they cut and sell as a business.
I assume that it wouldn't attract insects and butterflies if it doesn't have such a good smell ?

It attracts bees but not much else, I think. Someone gave us a huge bunch one evening. We put it in the car and didn't find out until we'd got in and were driving away that there were a lot of bees asleep right in the middle of it. We were both stung, MOH three times (just as well it was him since I was driving!)
