We got a letter today asking for this. Is it something new? We've never been asked to pay in advance before.
Could be due to the fact that our income last year was higher than usual because of the better exchange rate at the time.

Standard thing if you owe them above a set amount (based on the previous year's calculation). I cannot say what the level is but they expect payment in 3 instalments. The final one being a corrected demand based on this years declaration.

The numbers are coming down and slowly the system is moving to monthly prelevements.

We have been paying 3 instalments per year since 2012. The first was in January of that year, being an advance payment on our, as at that time our undeclared UK pension and gîte takings for 2011.

We received our demand 4 days ago by email for the first instalment.

Yes I think it's new to us because our income was below the taxable limit before 2015.
