Gorgeous doggie photos - glad to see that thunderstorms aren't a problem. I guess it's something that has to be learnt very young otherwise they can always be something to be frightened of.

I've had dogs all my life (which is why I'm a little bereft at the moment) and generally found that fear of things like thunderstorms is created, not inherent. Dylan couldn't have cared less, and even bonfire night's bangs and flashes didn't faze him. I've only ever had one dog that was fearful of loud noises, and like all the rest, came "second hand", but older than the rest. I always suspected someone in a previous life had told him he ought to be nervous of loud noises, so he was.

We have a neighbour whose dogs are always neurotic. They don't start out that way, but she always fusses over them whenever she thinks there's something going on that might upset them ... and the learn to be upset. Needless to say, she "manages" the village Bonfire Night "Petwatch Scheme", going round warning everyone who owns a pet when there are firework parties on days other than November 5th.

When we had our Border Collie Meg, she used to get excited by storms and run around barking at the sky, tail wagging and having great fun. For some reason over the years she before terrified of them and fireworks and would try and hide inside something. Usually our bed or a bedside cabinet. We put it down to her going deaf over the years and not hearing the storms coming. I found the best way to settle her was to get a large cardboard box, put it on its side with a sheet over it. That was her little bolt hole and thats where she'd go at the first sound of thunder.

The worst thing you can do to any animal is make a fuss of it when its frightened of something - just firmly tell him he'll be alright, nothing to worry about and carry on doing whatever it is you're doing. Hard to do, I know, but it does work.

Whoops! I was in DEEP trouble with Liz today..... she chose a nice quiet little walk for us this afternoon before the Man in Yellow was due to ride his bike on the TV. Aunty B spotted A Cat so we tore after it and I scrambled up the railway embankment after it (Aunty B too old for that). Couldn't find the cat, but the place was interesting enuff to make me deaf to the whistle. Liz v cross. She turned up at the gate (which was locked) and had to get a lady to unlock the gate and fetch me. Oops. Liz worried I'd ripped my stitches. Walkies ended. And no bikkies post-walkies.

Got both my plasters off now, and feeling just about back to normal. Still not having to be seriously training though, but walkies are getting longer. Was allowed over to the bar tonight as no other mutts were there. I found some charming French kiddies who needed help finishing off their packets of crisps. I do like crisps but I don't normally get the chance to eat many.

Had my stitches out yesterday, gave the nice young vet lots of licky kisses as he unpicked them. Such a nice young man, I think he's fallen in love with me.
I also got on the scales : 30.50kgs and not an inch of flab on my toned 8 month old body!
Had a great time Tuesday afternoon: it wasn't too hot and Liz went out client-visiting and took me too. This cute terrier greeted us, then what fun! Scout and I chased each other all round their HUGE garden for 2 hours and didn't get told off once, even though we sent their tea mugs and little table flying (well, they'd drunk their tea and the mugs bounced on the grass). We also caught their neighbour by surprise when she called in. We were taking a sharp corner at top speed and couldn't alter our trajectory, oops! over she went :o but she bounced and got up and smiled.

We've had visitors staying, one with Liz's Mum and she comes walkies with us every morning, and Annie with us. This meant Liz properly cleaned under the beds in the spare room and whoopee! I refound my squeaky chicken ball :) I thought Fixit had thrown it away, he doesn't like the noise and can be a meanie :( .
Here we all are winetasting.

Err, where's your glass, Moana? Seems like Fixit isn't the only meanie in the family.

AuntyB and me would have preferred the cheese stall Spardo, there was one there selling Savoie and stuff at 49€90 the kilo :o :o and it was all out in the hot open air, no cover or chiller so Liz said NO.
She wouldn't let us have the brébis nor the paté nor the saucisson nor the.... either. I need to move. Liz & Fixit are meanies. :(
And now Annie & Margaret have gone. :(

I've done Rentrée! I'm now in pre-education en alternance, one week in skool per month and I've got my timetable right up until Toussaints.
Liz & I had to be up VERY early on Tuesday to get me to Mérignac for 9am. Wow, there were so many of my mates there, especially good to see Moon and my bro Meori. Me and Meori have got the same teacher, Rémi, with Moï too.
I was a bit concerned yesterday, after training. People kept coming to collect dogs and the kennels were emptying out when I heard Liz's voice but she walked straight past me and spoke to Meori. Surely she wasn't going to take him instead of me? I sat there quivering, but it was alright, she came back and we left with a sack of munchies and AuntyB was in the car waiting for me and she'd left me a whole unchewed chew bone.
It took ages of stoppy-starty with smelly lorries spouting fumes to get round Bordeaux but we eventually got to the motorway and Liz opened windows and we all felt better.
I was very tired last night.

I'm now in skool for the week being very serious and very very good.....I was SO impressed by all those guide dogs. I met Driver, boy is he COOL! he lived with Liz & Fixit too. He's been all over the place, like he worked at Airbus, and now his master is retired he's been to Portugal and Sardinia and Corsica and....

I've just been talking to Maonas English cousin Ernie in my local Waitrose,so I told him all about his French relative. He was lovely ,12 weeks old and a good size I went over to talk to his trainer and he is hopefully going to be a guide dog ,he was very good for that age but of course hasn't reached the terrible teens yet . He was better behaved than the 2 year old next to me in the queue

I've been to a Ceremonie! The Posing of the Première Pierre of our new école on a new site! Very exciting, lots of interesting looking woodland and a playing field but we were all on leads and not allowed to explore 'cept for the 2-month old labradooddle babies who were allowed a little scamper. What cuties!
Lots of speeches. I got bored and misbehaved, jumping up when anyone came to faire la bise with Liz. OOPS! I left two huge black paddy-paw marks on one of the VIP's shirts :ymblushing: :ymblushing: , but he didn't really mind.
No photos, sorry, as Liz couldn't manage me and the camera.
SHE THEN LEFT ME THERE! IN A VAN! I'm incarcerated for 3 weeks training, I wondered what AuntyB had been smirking about, now I know she & Liz & Fixit are going on holiday without me.
Never mind, kennels are fun and I'm going to a new family for the weekends.

Hip Hip Hooray!
Skool took me to a different vet yesterday, I don't know why as I'm not ill. I had a nice doze and when I came to everyone was very happy and they rang Liz to say so.
Apparently my hips are lovely, so you won't see me up for adoption for having dysplasia. Which is a pity for you but great for me as I like skool :)
