We have been trying to sell our parents house in Vichy for ages using agents and the "normal" private sale websites without any responses at all. About a month a go, a friend forwarded a site which they have used for letting their Gites to the Russian speaking market. The response was pretty quick and we had interested calls almost immediately. Now, we've had two informal offers subject to final viewing So pleased for the parents. Just goes to show that the money is out there - just not necessarily in Europe..!

Good news. BTW there are several English Forums in Switzerland - where customers may well have more money to buy as holiday homes (not us- we are on UK pensions :( and the exchange rate is diabolical for us. £1 was 2.50 CHF when we came, now about 1.40 and even went down to 1.18 last year - duh).

Without wanting to dampen the spirits, but it may be best to wait until the first signing and the cooling off period is out of the way before getting too excited.

I always say, it's not sold until you have all their money!! :D

I agree, the sale is not done until we've spent the money :) :)

I just feel that after so long trying, it's a breath of fresh air when you advertise something and instead of a big, fat zilch...people are actually writing to you and asking for viewings and getting on with it. Both set's of buyers are in France at the moment and were viewing this weekend so we hope to hear tomorrow. They are both communicating with us in a way that looks as though they are being advised by the consultancy side of the site we used which, using a very poor auto translation, seems to give them pre and post-offer support. I must say, it was quite novel to see our property advertised in Russian but it seems to have worked - I guess we'll have a clearer idea tomorrow...and then, as you say, we wait for the cooling period. Dunno though, something about it feels right and my wife tells me I'm the world's worst pessimist...

Well, there we are. A firm offer to our Notaire just after lunch with deposit funds transferred and clearing. It's pretty much what we asked for (a polite reduction of about 4%) so we didn't wait to hear from the others. We seem to be getting there. Just have to grit our teeth through the cooling-off period now...!

Well done - shows what imaginative advertising can do.

Hi Swissie
It's in France but we aren't going back to the UK.
It's the village house we've had for nearly 14 years and kept after we found our permanent home.
