I know some members have been banned from this board. Who they are and why they were banned is not relevant to this suggestion. The suggestion is that the fact they are banned is mentioned next to their user name.

As this board matures some of the older threads may become alive again. If it were apparent that a contributor to that thread had subsequently been banned then I think it would be useful for anyone reading that thread.

Apologies if it already happens and I have not noticed!

That sounds a reasonable suggestion, Tibter. I'll check with the other Mods and see if this is possible.

After discussion, it is felt that it would not be fair to publicly mark banned people. Plus of course some people are only banned temporarily - very few have been banned permanently.

There are, of course, many members who rarely contribute, and many who have not posted for months. If an old posting were to be revived, there may not be any response from current members anyway !
An interesting idea, Tibter, but we don't really feel that this would serve any useful purpose.

If it doesn't matter who they are or why they are banned why advertise that they are banned next to their name?

The only use it could have is if the reason they were banned was given.

No problem Blaze. In my book the only reason for being banned is being obnoxious. I don't plan on finding out if there are any other reasons :D

I was once bannned from THIS very forum in its very early days. Yes, really!

I pleased to say that it was an administrative mistake (at least, that's what Andrew told me #:-s ), and I was quickly re-instated, but I'm always looking over my shoulder now - just in case...

Don't worry, Majic, we certainly don't want to lose you ! ;)
I banned Askari by mistake a couple of days ago (it's okay, he's back !). We Mods are only human and can make mistakes......unfortunately some people are unable to forgive and forget..... ! :((

A couple of people have been banned because they were abusive to me personally. One assumed that I had asked for him to be banned - I hadn't - and has now sent me a pm on TF, under his name there! I won't respond.

It seems we have to keep on repeating this......

Banning a member is never done lightly and is done after discussion and agreement in the Mod's section. No-one is banned simply by request from a member - that would open all sorts of doors !

I knew that, Blaze, but he didn't, so thanks for spelling it out again. Mind you, there are one or two people I would quite like to see the back of..............

So who has burning ears?

I actually thought that most people here were pretty decent. Not everyone has the same views, some pretty extreme perhaps %-( , that is their right (freedom of speach and all that, is there freedom of writing also?).

I thought it was obvious that my comment was meant to be light-hearted. Yes, I know nearly all of our members are lovely people and I have no objection to having a courteous debate with anyone.

Neither should you. You had nothing to do with him being banned. He managed it all by himself

I don't know who HE is and nor do I want to know! The reason for the original suggestion is that as this board ages, sorry but we have all got older in the last day, then more old posts will be resurrected. It might have been useful to know that certain members are no longer with us.

I bow to the mods decision ^:)^ sorry Dave you won't see the bowing smiley :ugeek:
